Join Tony Wood at 11am 25th Aug 2025 for a walk around the upper quarries of the National Stone Centre and across to Jackson Mine. Walk takes around 90 mins and covers some rough ground so sturdy trainers or walking boots recommended. Tickets £4 please bring the correct change as we cannot take card payments & pay the guide at the meeting point next to the National Stone Centre car park off Porter Lane, Wirksworth. Wait on the grass areas next to the bridge - see photo bottom left of poster. Dogs on short leads welcome. Lynn Willies will be joining you in the upper quarries to explain some of the techniques used to extract the rock. This is a joint event with the Wirksworth Mines Research Group who will be lighting up Jackson Shaft and sharing photographs of what it is like underground in the old lead mines.
