About us

Galena, lead ore, has been mined in the Peak District since before Roman times. Until the 20th century many families in the area earned a basic living from this mineral. Discover more about this industry and how it shaped the landscape, at the Peak District Lead Mining Museum and experience underground conditions at the authentic 1920s Temple Mine.
The Peak District Lead Mining Museum is situated within The Grand Pavilion, in the picturesque spa town of Matlock Bath, on the edge of the Peak District. It is easily accessible by car, bus and train.
The Grand Pavilion is Matlock Bath’s beautiful, but somewhat neglected 1910 pleasure palace, once used as a theatre and entertainments centre. To find out more about the building, its past, present and future, see www.thegrandpavilion.co.uk
